Description

Piston, Walter (1894 – 1976)

A good autograph letter signed by Walter Piston, May 31st 1976.

The composer writes to a Mr. Giddy. In part, ‘At the present time you probably understand that for me composing is very difficult and I can’t commit myself to anything definite. I have a back-log of requests, and all I can say is I will add yours and let the subconscious work on the idea.’ He goes on to thank his correspondent’s message, ‘which says words of encouragement and appreciation of “the heavy emptiness of it all.”‘

Two punch-holes to the left of the text, otherwise in fine condition.
