Description

Lenya, Lotte (1898 – 1981)

An interesting typed letter signed by Lotte Lenya, March 20th 1976. She writes, in part, ‘As much as I would like to give you some “personal observations on the treatment of Jews in Germany”, I find it impossible, time wise, to do so. Since you are doing a report on this theme, you will understand that the complexity of the subject is such that it needs a great deal of time — the one thing I do not have.’ She goes on, ‘As to the possible acquisition of a Brecht or Weill autographs, unfortunately I do not have any ideas of suggestions.’

In fine condition.

Lenya, who was not Jewish, was married to the Jewish composer Kurt Weill between 1926 and 1933, then again between 1937 – 1950.
