Description

Chamberlain, Neville (1869 – 1940)
Chamberlain in June 1937, at the start of a controversial premiership
A good one-page typed letter signed by Neville Chamberlain, 10 Downing Street headed paper, 14th June 1937. He writes to Commander Tuffill to thank him for the ‘congratulation which you were so good as to transmit to me in your letter of the 11th June’. He goes on, ‘I am looking forward to the time when my engagements will make it possible for me to dine with the Company, although I fear that that pleasure must, in existing circumstances, be deferred for the present.’ In very fine condition.
Chamberlain had taken office just two weeks earlier.
