Berkeley, Lennox (1903 – 1989)

‘The trouble is that I always find it impossibly difficult to write about my own music’

A two-page typed letter signed by Lennox Berkeley, 13th January 1959. The composer writes to ‘My dear Abraham’ in relation to an upcoming article. ‘The trouble is that I always find it impossibly difficult to write about my own music, and I have come reluctantly to the conclusion that it would really be better if someone else could do it.’ He goes on to make suggestions of possible writers, concluding, ‘I have a full score available which I could send at once to whoever agreed to take it on.’ In fine condition.
