Bacon, Francis (1909 – 1992)

‘I am afraid I got dead drunk’

A good two-page (one page, both sides) autograph letter signed by Francis Bacon, ‘Francis’. The painter writes to the socialite Janetta Parladé with whom he struck up friendship in the 1950s. Bacon writes on ‘Saturday morning’ (no date), in full, ‘Dear Janetta, I am so sorry not to have been at  your party last night. I am afraid I got dead drunk in the afternoon and was not fit to turn up. I would love to see you before you leave. Would you telephone me if you have a moment and we could have lunch or dinner. I was so furious with myself this morning as I was looking forward so much to seeing you. Love, Francis.’ In very fine condition.
