Prokofiev, Sergei (1891 – 1953)
A good typed letter signed, ‘S. Prokofiev’, 12th August 1925, to Sergei Grigorieff. Prokofiev thanks his correspondent ‘for the Schott’s music sheet, the receipt of which I am eager to confirm to you. As agreed with Sergei Pavlovich [Diaghilev], I must return it to him at the end of September. I shake your hand. Your S. Prokofiev.’
In fine condition. A nice association piece.
This note likely relates to the ballet Le pas d’acier, commissioned by Diaghilev in 1925 and completed by Prokofiev the following year. Diaghilev was a strong supporter of Prokofiev and referred to him as ‘my second son’ (the ‘first’ being Stravinsky).
