Picasso, Pablo (1881 – 1973)

Picasso identifies his painting Buveur d’absinthe

An approximately 8.5″ X 10.5″ photographic black-and-white reproduction of Picasso’s painting Buveur d’absinthe [1901], which features a profile view of a woman leaning towards her glass of absinthe on a cafe table. Picasso has written in coloured pencil to the reverse, ‘Ce tableau est de moi, Picasso, Paris le 15 decembre 1932′ adding his address, ’23 rue La Boétie, PARIS (8e Ar)’. In another hand, the dimensions of the painting are noted in ink above Picasso’s inscription, referring to the work as La verre d’absinthe. Some overall creasing, with a small closed tear to the right edge, but generally still in fine condition.

Quite scarce and desirable in this format; it is likely that Picasso was identifying his work in order to facilitate its sale in the hands of a dealer.
