Autographed quotation by Charles Dickens from David Copperfield

Dickens, Charles (1812 – 1870)

A quotation from David Copperfield

A superb twelve-line autograph quotation signed by Charles Dickens, 24th January 1859. Dickens chooses the final sentence of Chapter One of ‘David Copperfield’. In full, “No, I lay in my basket, and my mother lay in her bed; but Betsey Trotwood Copperfield was for ever in the land of dreams and shadows, the tremendous region whence I had to lately travelled; and the light upon the window of our room shone out upon the earthly bourne of all such travellers, and the mound above the ashes and the dust that once was he, wihout whom I had never been”. Dickens identifies the quotation, signing boldly, “David Copperfield, by Charles Dickens”. In very fine condition. A superb item that would surely take pride of place in any autograph collection.
