Carnarvon, The Earl of (1866 – 1923)
An extremely rare three-page autograph letter signed by Carnarvon on a single folded sheet, Hotel Continental, Paris, April 24th 1892. The future co-discoverer of Tutankhamun writes in French to an unnamed correspondent.
In full, ‘I have just received your letter, and as everything relating to the 18th century interests me I will be very happy to put myself entirely at your disposal for the few drawings, paintings etc. that I own from the French School. Please tell me if the designs for the books are within your scope and also what details you need. I will be in London within 15 days from where I will send you what I can. Sending my most respectful greetings, Carnarvon.’
Carnarvon’s autograph is extremely rare in any format, and this is only the second autograph letter we have seen in thirty years.
