Barrie, J.M. (1860 – 1937)

‘The girl is so mirroring of Wendy’

A two-page autograph letter signed by J.M. Barrie, 22nd March, no year, in which he alludes to the famous Wendy Darling of Peter Pan. The author writes to a Mr. Bradshaw, in part, ‘thanks heartily for the Shepperson portfolio, which I like much. As for the photographs, the girl is so mirroring of Wendy that if you had dared to call her anything else there would have been a sharp message from the house under the ground.’ In his mention of ‘the house under the ground’ Barrie alludes to chapter seven of Peter and Wendy, headed The Home Under The Ground. Very slight tear to fold edge, otherwise in fine condition.
